About us
We’re a VC-backed Oxford spin-out (2022) transforming how fluorochemicals are made - developing safer, lower-cost and more sustainable routes to materials used Li-ion batteries and agrochemicals. Based at ARC Oxford, we operate across cutting-edge R&D, analytical, and pilot-scale facilities.
Requirements
A hands-on role at the interface of synthetic inorganic chemistry and process scale-up. You’ll help take new chemistry from lab to kg-scale production, working with real pilot plant equipment.
CLOSING DATE FOR APPLICATIONS MONDAY 15th JUNE 2026.
Key Responsibilities
Support the scale-up of synthetic inorganic and fluorination processes to kilogram-plus scale
Manufacture materials for internal validation, customer sampling, and downstream applications
Perform quality control (QC) and stage-gate analytical testing of inorganic and fluorinated materials
Prepare samples and maintain accurate experimental and production records
Operate and monitor pilot-scale reactor systems (up to 100 L) and associated plant equipment
Perform preventative maintenance and troubleshooting of process equipment
Contribute to safe handling and scale-up of reactive chemistries
Support process safety reviews and risk assessments
Act as a key interface between scale-up and operations teams, including logistics and waste handling
Essential
Degree (BSc / MChem / MSc) in Chemistry (preferably synthetic-focussed) or Chemical Engineering
Hands-on experience with bench or pilot-scale chemical processes
Experience working with reactor systems (e.g. jacketed vessels >10 L) or similar equipment
Understanding of process safety considerations in chemical scale-up
Strong organisational skills and ability to work independently and within a team
Proficiency with Microsoft Office
Excellent communication skills
Right to live and work in the UK
Desirable
Exposure to scale-up, pilot plant, or manufacturing environments
Practical engineering knowledge (e.g. valves, fittings, instrumentation)
Experience maintaining laboratory or pilot equipment
Why Join FluoRok?
Make a tangible difference through work with clear real-world impact
See a direct connection between developments made in Oxford and facility design and commercialisation
Work on cutting-edge synthetic chemistry with real industrial impact
Gain rare experience in chemical scale-up within an early-stage deep-tech company
Contribute to the development of next-generation battery and fluorochemical materials
Gain direct exposure to pilot plant and manufacturing
Grow and specialise alongside the company as we build the company together
Benefits
Competitive salary £30,000-£35,000 per annum
We offer a competitive benefits package with private pension, private health insurance, group life insurance and share options plan.
